Cinema wayfinding

In 2020 I did a short sharp project with my friend and old co-founder Tally Tarik to design a digital sign for cinema availability status.

A vertical, large computer screen leans against a wall. It shows rows of cinema names, each with a status of 'In session', 'Open' or 'Cleaning'.
The first eureka moment when we saw it working.

Limelight Cinema in Canberra was taking advantage of the Covid downturn to remodel and rethink their lobby experience. Part of that was included asking us what might replace the manual 'Cinema closed for cleaning' sign system.

We designed a digital sign that could display the status of the cinema, including whether it was open or closed, and branded it with the cinema type.

It connected to the cinema's booking system and updated in real-time to reduce the effort of staff manually updating it like they used to.

The vertical sign in-situ, on a wall in a cinema lobby.
It on the cinema wall.

So what?

It's a small project I hold close to my heart. It took a day to design, but I can point to the sign whenever I walk past it and brag.

I made that. Pretty cool, hey?
